David Clifford Jaussi

March 17, 1944 — July 13, 2024

Weston, ID

David Clifford Jaussi, age 80, passed suddenly from a glioblastoma on July 13, 2024, in Weston, Idaho. He was surrounded by his wife and four daughters.

Dave was born on March 17, 1944, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Clifford and Barbara Davis Jaussi. He spent the first few years of his life in Geneva, Idaho, where his parents managed a creamery. The family settled in Rexburg, where Dave attended and graduated from Madison High School.

After high school Dave served a two year mission for the LDS church in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America where he developed a love for languages. Upon his return he continued his education in languages at Ricks College. It was while he was studying German at Ricks he met Daila Ziedite Vizulis, a student from Sweden working in the language tutoring lab.

David and Daila were married in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on August 25, 1966. They were blessed with their first child a year later. After graduating with a teaching degree from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho the family moved back to Rexburg. They purchased their first home and 10 acres of land in Hibbard, Idaho where they would remain for over 40 years and add three more daughters to their family.

Dave worked as a junior high school teacher for over 30 years, first in Menan, Idaho, and then in Rigby, Idaho. In addition to teaching, Dave enjoyed working on his farm, raising cattle, training horses, and remolding the house every summer. David and Daila also owned a catering business. In 2000, Dave took an early retirement from teaching to join Daila full-time in catering, where he expanded things to a new level. They had a very successful business for over 20 years. In 2013, David and Daila sold the family home in Hibbard and moved to Weston, Idaho, to be closer to some of their grandchildren.

Dave had a passion for Idaho. He loved spending time in the Tetons and Yellowstone, hunting, fishing, breaking/riding horses, raising cows, designing houses, photography, woodworking, lexicology/etymology, Spanish, genealogy, world history, science, vintage bottle collecting, and being a cowboy.

Dave was a lifelong learner. He spoke three languages and had vast knowledge about a plethora of subjects. Our family rarely had to use Google, GPS, Wikipedia or Spellcheck because we could just ask Dad. Dave was a faithful member of the LDS church and was an exemplary model of service and integrity. He served as Elders Quorum President, a Seventy, High Priest, and many other callings.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Daila; his four daughters, Debora, Dawn, Diedra, and Drexel Charlie; sons-in-law Bill Montano, Josh Christensen, and Corrie Bingham; his seven grandchildren, Abigail, Amanda, Ava, Cutler, Camdon, Ander, Cayden and his brother Dale Jaussi. David is proceeded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Alyssa Montano, his infant grandson Henry Montano and his favorite horse Little Bits Bar.

Services will be conducted on July 19, 2024, at the Weston LDS First Ward Chapel in Weston, Idaho, at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be held from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the Weston LDS First Ward Chapel.
