Stewart Floyd Thompson was born on August 8, 1936, in Cedar City, Utah, to his earthly parents, Wayne Thompson and Claudia Thorley Thompson.
Floyd graduated from Weber State University with a BA in Business. He loved doing sales, was a Sales Rep for Libby Owens Glass, then sold Life Insurance for several years, then Chrome Plate, an aircraft company that supplied equipment for Aircraft which was his other love in his life. He loved people and keeping his customers happy. Floyd absolutely loved flying. He spent many happy hours flying across the country for work and pleasure. In fact, you could be sitting and visiting with him as a plane flew overhead. Floyd would tell you the make and model, motor information as well as all other details of the said plane!
The last 20 years of his career were spent working for the Vista Unified School District in California, in the maintenance department. Floyd could work anywhere...did plumbing, painting (which he didn't love), woodworking, and locksmith shops. There he made many lifelong and dear friends that still kept in touch to this day.
Floyd has always had a love for woodworking and spent many hours creating beautiful bowls, pens, clocks, dressers, tables, and other furniture. You'd be hard-pressed to find a home that did not have one or two special treasures created by Floyd. His favorite pastime how collecting or cutting down walnut trees...and we won't talk about how much wood is in the shed.
Later in life, Floyd developed a great love for temple service and family history. He and Elsie spent many many hours doing that work, Elsie finding their family names, then together attending the temple to do that work. Health restrictions prevented him from reaching his desired goal, but he is now able to continue his work from the other side.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Olsen Thompson, his son Steve Thompson, (Preston), daughter Connie Eck, (Doug) of Idaho Falls, stepchildren Lisa Rankin, (Michael) of Idaho Falls, Laura Nuenke of Idaho Falls, Sarah Davis, (Brad) of Preston, Samuel Rail of Ohio, Jonothan Rail, (Krista) of Taylorsville, Ut. Brother, Don Thompson, (Sylvia) of Minersville, Utah, sister LaRue Thompson, (Spencer) of North Salt Lake, 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews as well as friends. He is preceded in death by a son, Scott Thompson, and great-grandson Cole Eck.
A sincere thank you goes out to the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff at Franklin County Hospital who so lovingly cared for Floyd, and supported Elsie in his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the Fairview LDS Chapel, 165 W 4800 S, Preston, Friends may call on Wednesday evening February 2, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m and again on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the chapel.
