Gaylin S Covert, 74, of Preston passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, from Parkinson's Disease at the Heritage Home in Soda Springs, ID. Gaylin was born in Preston, ID, on September 26, 1949, to Calvin and Marintha Covert. He was raised with his siblings on Cottonwood Creek.
He married the love of his life, Lynda Wilson, in 1968. He worked for RC Wiley, Treasure Canyon, and then in 1988, he moved his family to California for a job he loved working for the Housing Authority of San Bernadino, CA. His gift of gab made him a favorite of the residents, who regularly cooked food and goodies for him.
He had a passion for food from the common to the bizarre; the spicier, the better. Gaylin and Lynda loved to travel to hunt for bargains, wine, and more food.
Everyone loved him for his quick wit and humor, memorable limericks, and hilarious lifetime experiences. Although he struggled with illness from an early age, he was an awesome carpenter and woodworker. After he retired, he spent much of his time making cedar chests.
He is deeply loved and admired by all his family, and while our hearts are broken, we know he has found a grill to cook ribs and someone to talk and joke.
He is survived by his spouse Lynda of Preston; a son Ramey (Adrienne) of California; grandsons, Michael (Georgia), Jadin, Ashton, and Mason, all in California; stepson Michael (Joe) of Illinois; brothers Theo of Preston and Mark Grace; and a sister Marlane of Preston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larry and Edwin.
At his request, no services will be conducted. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Cleveland Cemetery. Please share a favorite memory of Gaylin or offer condolences to the family by leaving a tribute on this page.
