Gwen Cottle Cantwell

November 7, 1940 — June 11, 2024

Smithfield, UT

Gwen Cottle Cantwell was joyfully welcomed home by her beloved husband, Roger Cantwell, on June 11, 2024. She was born on November 7, 1940, to June Bingham and Rex Abraham Cottle. Her parents divorced when she was seven years old. Despite growing up in modest circumstances, Gwen felt content and cherished. As a teenager, her mother remarried Ern Morrison, and Gwen spent her youth in Cornish, Utah, attending North Cache High School. She was the second of five sisters: Marie, Tamera, Sandra, and Sue. Gwen shared a particularly close bond with her sisters, Sue and Sandra. At the age of 17, Gwen met Roger, the love of her life, and they married on December 12, 1958. Their union was solemnized in the Logan Temple on February 18, 2011. Together, they were blessed with four children: Trevor, Jacqueline, Stephanie, and Justin.

Despite her humble beginnings, Roger always treated Gwen like a queen. In her youth, Gwen enjoyed twirling the baton and participating in parades. During her teenage years, she danced the jitterbug with her uncle, Darwin Bingham, showcasing their talent. Gwen also found pleasure in bowling, earning numerous trophies in various leagues. Her hobbies included reading romance novels, crocheting, and listening to Conway Twitty and Elvis, but her greatest joy was attending horse races with Roger and their family. She made many friends at the races and eagerly traveled to different venues.

Gwen was known for her lively personality and gift of conversation—she could strike up a conversation with anyone and was never at a loss for words. Gwen was a woman who took pride in her appearance; she loved the color red, and you could always catch her with her red fingernail polish and red lipstick.

Gwen was voted Student Vice President during her time at Lewiston Middle School. She worked in accounts payable at Pepperidge Farm and later assisted her husband at RC’s Horse Supply. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, June, Rex, and stepfather, Ern, as well as her sisters, Marie Bird, Sandra (Jerry) Alder, Sue Palmer, and brother-in-law, Tom Germane. She is survived by her sister Tamera, her children Trevor (Linda), Jacque (Quinn), Nelson, Stephanie (Craig), Balls, and Justin, along with 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family extends a special thanks to Meals on Wheels for their delivery of meals without fail.
