Ila Myndel Jones Owen, also known as "Tillie" or "Grandma Old One" passed away on January 15, 2025, at the Franklin County Transitional Care Unit. Born on February 16, 1950, she spent her childhood living in Denver and Los Angeles, being raised by her father and her grandmother. She moved with her husband and children to Preston, ID in 1981.
Myndel graduated in 1968 from Leuzinger High School. She met her husband Lyle in Los Angeles through a mutual friend and they were married on November 10, 1973. He preceded her in death.
Myndel's career spanned over three decades at Screibers, formerly known as Cache Valley Cheese. She was forced to retire earlier than she wanted to due to a fall. She was a dedicated employee and loved her job.
Known for her stubbornness, Myndel was also a playful jokester who kept her family and the nursing staff on their toes. She enjoyed trying new recipes and loved cooking. She grocery shopped just about every day at Stokes. She also loved to collect toys. She had a large collection of beanie babies, fidget spinners, and Star Wars toys. Before needing to move into the nursing home, she enjoyed her daily trips to town to buy her scratch-off lottery tickets with hopes of winning big someday. She loved her crossword puzzles and loved playing bingo while at TCU.
A true California girl at heart, she had a profound love for the ocean, often talking about her surfing days at Redondo Beach, hanging out with her brother Jim and how she missed her dog, Skippy.
Myndel was married to Thomas Murray and to this union had her first two daughters, Theresa (Jay) Atkinson and Tammy (Rick) Morriss. They divorced and she later married Lyle H Owen and had a son and daughter, Lyle (Andee) Owen Jr and Emily Owen. She has 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Owen, her father, Orville Jones, and her brother, Orville "Jim" Jones.
At Myndel's request, no services will be held. She requested to be cremated, and we will abide by her wishes.
We want to thank the nurses and staff at the Franklin County Transitional Care Unit, and Dr. Beckstead for caring for our mother.
