Gary Knapp was born on December 23, 1950, in Preston, Idaho. He passed away peacefully in his home on March 19, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Gary was raised on a farm in Cubriver with his siblings: Ruth, Richard, Mary, Dolyn, and Sterling, where he learned the value of hard work and service. He loved working on his family farm and continued farming throughout his life. He worked hard to instill these core values in his children and grandchildren.
He met Shannon Casperson in junior high and knew she would always have his heart. After serving an honorable, full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Mission, he returned home and married his sweetheart, Shannon, in the Logan temple for time and all eternity.
Gary believed in lifelong learning and had an incredible knowledge of all things temporal and spiritual. He excelled in mathematics and science, earning his degree in clinical pathology from Utah State University. He also loved to study the gospel and taught himself Hebrew to better understand the scriptures. He could often be found memorizing scriptures and quoting prophets. Gary was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and found joy throughout his life serving in his various callings for the church. He shared his testimony with everyone, and he taught his children and grandchildren the importance of making and keeping sacred covenants.
He is preceded in death by his eternal companion and love of his life, Shannon, and his eldest daughter, Rachel; his parents, Kenneth and Charlene, and many other beloved family members.
He is survived by five of his children: Rebecca (Travis) Windley, Stuart (Kaylyn) Knapp, Catherine (Adam) Roth, Michael (Lana) Knapp, and Andrea (Dallas) Spencer. Also, his beloved grandchildren (Steven, Ethan, Gordon, Akazia, Lukus, Matthew, Cole, Andrew, Maycie, Spencer, Joshua, William, Allison, Ellie, Lorynn, Scott, James, and Penelope), and his siblings and many other loved ones.
Gary will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 31st at 11:00 AM, at the Preston South Stake Center church.
