Grandma has "tossed her toes, " a familiar phrase we often hear from her. Lou Fonnesbeck returned to the open arms of our Father in Heaven on September 27, 2024, at the age of 92. There, she was greeted by her parents, all of her siblings, and, of course, her husband of 23 years, Norm Fonnesbeck. Her heart and kidneys could not keep up with her determination to live.
Lou was born to Ezra Lowe Neeley and Elva Marie Hansen. She was the youngest of five siblings: Nina Jean, Robert (Bob), Grace, and Floyd. It wasn't until she started school that she found out her name was Lou because everyone called her Honey.
She was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. After high school, she was a "number please girl" for The Mountain States Telephone Company. She joined the Navy and served as a Navy nurse in Norfolk, Virginia, during the Korean Conflict. After her enlistment, she moved to Salt Lake and worked at Salt Lake Hardware and later in the offices of Grand Central. After her daughter, Kelli, graduated from high school, she returned to Pocatello to be close to her sisters. There, she worked for the Gas Company.
Island Park was her favorite place. She had many loving memories of her family around the campfire. It was there she met Boyd and Jeraldine Phillips from Weston. They were visiting around the campfire, talking about where they from. When Lou found out they were from Weston, she said, ``I know someone from Weston!" It just so happened the person she knew was their neighbor and friend, Norman Fonnesbeck. Circumstances were that Lou was divorced and Norm was a recent widower. They rekindled their relationship and were married in the Logan Temple on November 27, 1981.
After starting her life in Weston, she began working as the clerk for Weston City. She served the community for 17 years and gained many good friendships throughout that time. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings with a loving heart.
Lou leaves behind her daughter, Kelli (Scott) Owen, 4 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. There are also 4 of Norm's children, Jay (Sharalynn) Fonnesbeck, Rozie (Walt) Povey, Kevin (Patty) Fonnesbeck, and Susan (Craig) Hansen, 13 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was always eager to tell anyone that she had 48 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Weston Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Red Rose Funeral Home, 56 S State Street, Preston.
