Pocatello, ID

Sharon Carolina DeVita, 76, of Pocatello, ID, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, of Alzheimer's. She was born on February 16, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Pete and Carolina Steffens and had one brother, Shannon Steffens.

As a child, Sharon would bike to her grandmother's house after school, where she spent time with her grandmother and Uncle Richard Steffens. It was there that she began honing her skills as a homemaker. Sharon graduated from LeGrande High School in 1966 and pursued studies in Art Education at Eastern Oregon State University with dreams of becoming an art teacher and exploring a career in engineering.

On June 10, 1967, she married Randall DeVita at St. Anthony Church in Pocatello. Together, they built a life full of passion and shared interests.

Sharon had a deep love for animals and spent 20 years raising and showing registered Morgan Horses, even raising her son from horseback. Her passion expanded to showing AKC-registered Irish Wolfhounds and Scottish Deerhounds, earning numerous awards and accolades over the years. She also became one of seven women actively carving carousel horses from her home, a craft she deeply enjoyed.

Her hobbies included riding horses, showing her beloved dogs, carving carousel horses, and spending time with her family. She was a dedicated member of the Pocatello Kennel Club, the Morgan Horse Association, and the Irish Wolfhound and Scottish Deerhound Associations.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 57 years, Randall DeVita; her son Dino DeVita and son-in-law Adam "Kirby"-DeVita; her cherished "four-legged grandchildren" Duke, Oak, Skadi, Tank, Thalia, Bruce, Calvin, and little Sammie; and her equine "grandbabies" Jazmine and Eclipse, both 9 months old. She is also survived by her brother, Shannon Steffens.

A celebration of Sharon’s life will take place in the spring or summer of 2025, with details to be announced at a later date. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. To share a favorite memory of Sharon or offer condolences to the family, please leave a tribute on this page.
