About Us

Franklin County is Now Red Rose

Franklin County Funeral Home is now Red Rose Funeral Home. The reason for this change is simple: Red Rose Funeral Home better represents who we are and who we serve. The name Franklin County implies that we only serve Franklin County, and some have even questioned whether we are owned by the county, which we are not. Our new name comes from the simple gesture of love and respect we have provided since we opened. Every time a loved one comes into our service, a long-stemmed red rose is left for the family in remembrance of their family member.

Our reputation has grown, and now families from all over southern Idaho and northern Utah call on us to assist them in their time of need. They know that we provide the highest quality service at a much more affordable price than other funeral homes.

I am so honored to be a part of this community and to be able to provide an affordable option for your funeral service needs. I have been in the funeral industry since 1986 and know how to manage the little details that make it a more positive experience for your family. We aim to serve our families with quality service, dignity, sincerity, honesty, and trust. When a family chooses to use our services, I wear that as a badge of honor, and I am committed to making the experience the best I can.

My staff and I pride ourselves on providing the best services possible to the families we serve. Knowing that we can make difficult times easier for families motivates us daily. But you don’t have to take my word for it—check out our testimonials and reviews to see what families say about us and our services.

Our Story

Todd Goodsell the owner and Funeral Director started in the Funeral Industry in 1986, working in funeral homes in Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Idaho, and even served a term as the Minidoka County Coroner.

Todd who is a native of Cache Valley spent many childhood and adult hours with his grandparents Glen and Amy Bowman in Cub River and Preston, working on the farm, shopping in town, supporting events, and just enjoying the beauty of the area. He still owns property in the Canyon and regularly enjoys spending time there. Todd has numerous family members in Franklin County and Cache County.

After many years of living away from his family in Cache Valley, he decided to return and open up a funeral home that would give the residents of the area a more affordable option than all other funeral homes in the area. Hearing some pretty unsettling stories of how much families in the area were paying for funeral services, and in some cases how they were being treated, he decided to return to Preston to offer an affordable alternative to the current overpriced funeral services in the area.

From the inception of the business, Todd knew that he did not want this funeral home to be another stuffy grandma’s parlor funeral home. Many people today, also do not want to feel like they are in a church. Times have changed and many families no longer feel comfortable in that type of environment. What Todd was able to create, is truly a bright, peaceful space that is more welcoming like a family home. This is a big step to being able to help families create a comfortable funeral service that fits their loved ones.

Another noted difference is that instead of spending a huge amount of money on a new structure. Todd felt it was more important to try and revitalize downtown Preston, by taking existing buildings, that had been a part of Preston for almost 100 years, and working to bring new life to them. By renovating and creating a new facade, he not only created a beautiful community space but brought beauty to a struggling downtown. He started out with one smaller building and within the next year, started the process of expanding into an adjoining building, more than tripling the space. What was created is a beautiful addition to the downtown landscape. Franklin County Funeral Home opened for business in December of 2018.

Franklin County Funeral Home is a full-service funeral home with a large chapel, viewing areas, casket and urn selections, preparation areas, and refrigeration capabilities. We are also unique in the fact that we have a full-service kitchen and have the space to be able to offer families the ability to have luncheons on location, including catering if needed. We offer full-service traditional and modern funeral and cremation services, focusing on creating services as unique as the life you have lived.

Many ask how we can provide services so much cheaper than other funeral homes in the area. The model is simple. We utilize efficiencies and keep our overhead low, which allows us to pass those savings on to the families we serve.
